Our History
Where legacy meets craftsmanship — and every story is carved in stone.
From Humble Beginnings to a Lasting Legacy
Manny Rico was born in Garland, Texas, to parents Angel and Rita Rico — immigrants from Mexico who worked tirelessly as field hands to support their family. Though raised in poverty, Manny developed a deep respect for hard work, craftsmanship, and community service.
After moving to Chattanooga, Manny worked for Comolli Memorials for over 15 years. Comolli had been a cornerstone in the memorial industry since the early 1900s, and when it closed, Manny carried that knowledge forward. In 1986, he founded Rico Monuments alongside his wife Barbara and their son Tracey. Together, they poured decades of experience and heart into every monument — building not just stones, but trust.
Craftsmanship Passed Down
The company grew through word of mouth, trusted by families across the Tri-State area for its quality and compassion. Today, that legacy continues through the next generation. Manny’s grandson, Blaine Rico, and his wife, Rachel, now own and operate Rico Monuments with the same integrity and commitment to excellence that defined its founding.
What began with chisel and stone now blends old-world skill with modern technology — from hand-crafted granite memorials to custom civic signage and on-site engraving.
Chattanooga’s Original Monument Company
Rico Monuments remains Chattanooga’s oldest continually operating monument business. For nearly four decades, we’ve proudly served generations of families with handcrafted granite memorials, bronze plaques, and personalized care. Our name may have changed, but our values remain the same.
Formerly known as Comolli Memorials, our roots stretch deeper than the stone we carve. When searching for Chattanooga monuments, choose the team that’s stood the test of time — and stone.
